Human Support Group Limited - Oaklands is an extra care housing scheme supporting people to live independently. The scheme has 36 self contained apartments and 12 people who lived there were in receipt of a regulated activity. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. We assessed all quality statements under the five key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. We completed an onsite assessment of the service on 28 August and 4 and 10 September 2025. We continued to collect evidence and feedback after this. The service had not previously been inspected or rated.
People were kept safe through risk assessments and staff were encouraged to report any incidents. Where accidents or incidents had occurred the appropriate action was taken and lessons were learned. The service had a good relationship with other healthcare professionals enabling smooth transitions between care services for people. Safeguarding was a priority and people were kept safe from harm and discrimination. People were involved in their care and supported to do things that were important to them. Some improvement was required in the oversight of health and safety of the premises. However, we did not identify any safety concerns during our assessment and the environment was clean.
Staff were recruited and trained effectively and worked together well to provide care that was safe and met people’s needs. People and their families were positive about the staff and we observed people being treated with kindness and compassion.
People’s needs were assessed on admission and care plans were created and reviewed as appropriate. Relatives were encouraged to be involved in their loved ones’ care planning. Staff said they could access the information they needed and there was good continuity of care between staff teams. People were supported to be independent and there were a variety of activities scheduled at the service. Care plans contained information specific to each person and people were treated as individuals and supported to attend activities of their preference.
Staff spent time with people outside of tasks and were responsive to changes in need. Communication was adapted as necessary to ensure people could understand and be understood and have equal access to care.
Staff received adequate training and said they felt supported by the management team. Regular meetings with staff took place and interactive tools were used to provide and share information. There was an open culture within the service and people were encouraged to speak up. Effective systems and audits enabled oversight of the service and the management team were aware of their legal responsibilities and the importance of staying informed of best practice and national legislation.
