Ashglade is a 12 bedded care home supporting older people. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. At the time of our assessment 11 people were using the service.
The last rating at the service was Good (published 11 April 2018).
We undertook this assessment due to the time since our last assessment. We looked at 8 quality statements.
The provider was not always working within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 and appropriate legal authorisations. We discussed these concerns with the registered manager who shared evidence of improvements they have made thus far. Staff liaised with other health and social care professionals and those important to people to ensure decisions were made in people’s best interests.
There were systems and processes in place to manage and follow up on accidents and incidents. Staff understood and adhered to their responsibilities to safeguard vulnerable adults. Staff understood and managed risks to people’s safety. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. The provider made sure staff received training and regular supervision to maintain high-quality care.
The provider assessed people’s needs, choices and preferences. Staff involved people in the service and supported them to make choices about aspects of daily life and were encouraged to maintain relationships with their relatives. Staff were kind, caring, respectful and people felt well supported. People took part in a range of social activities and were encouraged to be independent. Staff were happy working at the service and felt supported by the registered manager.
