During a routine inspection

We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

We spent time speaking with people living at the home. Comments included: ”On the whole the food is always good and there is always an alternative.” “I can visit anytime-If I ring up they will fetch X’s file to the phone and keep me informed.” “X is always lovely and clean wearing matching clothes and jewellery as she did at home they encourage X to keep her independence.” “One visitor told us: “The residents are helped to walk around instead of sitting all the time.”

We walked around the home and found it was clean and tidy. They had infection control procedures in place to reduce the risk of infection. Staff wore personal protective clothing such as plastic aprons and gloves. There were good supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE). There were good supplies of liquid soap and paper towels available and sanitising hand gels were placed around the building.

During a routine inspection

We were not able to communicate with some people living at the home due to their complex communication needs, but through observations they appeared relaxed and comfortable. We did however speak with two people who told us that they were happy living there and that they were supported to make choices in their daily routines, according to their wishes.

We also spoke with visitors who told us that they were made to feel welcome and that they felt people were supported in a respectful and dignified way.

We also looked at people’s care records. We found records were accurate, up to date and regularly reviewed. We also saw how the organisation included people in decision making throughout their treatment and support.

We looked at staff records and found the staff were well trained and saw there were good systems in place to ensure they were well supported in their work.

We looked at other records and found that these were generally well kept. We did however have concerns that confidentiality of information was at risk. When we spoke to the acting manager they agreed that they would resolve this promptly.

During a routine inspection

People living in the home told us they felt well cared for. One person said the staff were "fantastic". We spoke with two visiting relatives and both expressed satisfaction with the care and support provided.

Some people living at the home were not able to communicate clearly enough to express an opinion.
