During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy living at the home. Their comments included, "I like it here, staff are alright, they are nice to me,' 'it's great here' and 'everything is fine, I like it here, if I ever get upset the staff sit and talk with me they are nice and make me feel better.'

Relatives spoken with said that they were happy with the care their loved ones received. They told us, "X' seems really happy and content at Brookfield', 'Overall we are happy with the care and support staff provide,' and 'X... has good relationships with staff and has blossomed at Brookfield.'

During the inspection we spent time sitting with people in the communal areas of the home. We found that care and support was offered appropriately to people.

We found that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the staff acted in accordance with their wishes.

We found that people's needs were identified in care plans. Records showed and people told us that they had been involved in the care planning process. People told us that they had regular access to healthcare professionals.

We found that medicines were being obtained, recorded, handled, dispensed and disposed of in a safe way.

The provider had a satisfactory recruitment and selection procedure in place to ensure that staff were appropriately employed.

People we spoke with said that they had no complaints or concerns about the home.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two of the people who used the service. They both told us that they liked living in the home and think the staff 'are good and helpful'. One person told us that 'I feel the staff look after me' and the staff 'respond to emergency problems'

We spoke with staff and they told us that they enjoyed working at the home and feel that there is 'high quality care here'.

We looked at all the care plans of the people who used the service. We saw that they covered a lot of areas and were tailored to meet the needs of the individual. We saw that risk assessments were in place and plans developed to reduce the risk of harm to the person.

The staff we spoke with told us that they had training in safeguarding and were able to tell us what they would do if they had any concerns. We saw that there was a corporate safeguarding policy and whistle blowing policy in place to support and protect the staff.

We saw that staff had regular supervision and an annual appraisal. The staff we spoke with told us that they received good support from the manager and they described the team as a 'family unit'.

During a routine inspection

People say they like living in the home. People say they are involved and have a say in what happens to them. They also said they like going to college and going to work at Riding for the Disabled.

Another said they like going to help out at a charity Caf' in Wakefield. Another said they love working at a local school and likes helping out and in particular looking after the children.

All three people using the service said they like living in the home and they are supported to do lots of things.

People living using the service say that they like living in the home and they feel safe. People said they trust their key workers and like those looking after and supporting them.

People say they like living in the home and have their own living space as they want. One person says they have everything they need. Another person said they had chosen the colour scheme for their bedroom and was very happy with their room.

. People said they liked helping put up the Christmas tree and the Christmas decorations. People said they were looking forward to Christmas and in particular getting presents.

People say they like those caring for them. One person said the staff are good and listen to what they say and help them do things. They also said they help them learn how to do things and take them out.

People say they like those caring for them. One person said they like their key worker and other people supporting them.
