During a routine inspection

We spoke with people living at the home. All said that the standard of care was good and that staff worked hard to provide the support they needed. People told us that they were able to make choices about their daily living which staff respected. The inspectors had previously been advised that the company, which operates the service, had gone into administration. Administrators hoped to sell Pinehurst, and other homes in the group over the coming months. A company has been appointed to oversee the running of the home whilst the administrators try to sell the home. The inspection found no evidence that the administration had impacted on the care provided to the people living at Pinehurst.

All the people we spoke with said that they were very happy living in the home and that they had been kept informed of the administration and plans to sell the home.

We spoke with eight people who were living in the home. They told us that: "the food is very good" and that "staff listen and very helpful and try to sort out problems for us".

During an inspection in response to concerns

Whilst completing our visit to the service we spoke to five people living in the home. We asked them what they thought of their care?

People responded with comments including, "The staff are lovely", "The staff are very, very good", "When I press the bell staff usually come quickly".

When asked about activities people commented, "Staff used to have more time to talk to me", "There doesn't seem to be many activities for us", "We have a lot of time on our hands", "Staff are good at helping me get out in the local community".

A general comment from people was, "I like it here".

We were fortunate to be able to speak with a relative who was visiting the home; they stated, "The home is wonderful", "Tender loving care", "Staff are very good", "Things are changing for the better since the new manager started".

In addition to speaking to people living in the home we also spoke to staff present during our visit; we asked what it was like to work in the home. Speaking with staff they said the morning shift is really busy with only two staff on duty, comments included; "We can only do the basics", "Two staff are not enough in the mornings", "We don't really have time to talk to people in the morning", "We haven't had a cleaner for months and have had to do the cleaning as well".
