All Inspections

20 September 2013

During a routine inspection

There was about to be a change in registered manager for the home. An application for a new registered manager has been received.

There were 15 people who used the service at the time of our inspection. We observed the care provided, looked at supporting care documentation, medication records, staff records and records relating to the management of the service. We spoke with the registered manager who is referred to as the manager in the report, the deputy manager, three care workers, six people who used the service and a relative.

This told us people who used the service or their representatives had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment and had given consent to the care provided. People's care needs had been assessed and care and treatment had been planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. Comments received included 'Staff are fantastic. The cr'me de la cr'me,' 'They are very kind. Whatever you ask them to do they do it,' and 'I would have nothing to complain about. They are really very thoughtful.'

Appropriate arrangements were in place in relation to obtaining, storing, administering handling and recording medicines.

Robust recruitment procedures were in place.

The records for the management of the home were in place and kept securely.

There were 13 people who used the service at the time of our visit. We observed the care provided, looked at supporting care documentation, we spoke with the registered manager who is referred to as manager in the report, two care workers, six people who used the service and two relatives of another.

This told us people or their representatives had been able to express their views about the care provided, and where possible people who used the service had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People's care needs had been assessed and reviewed, and care and treatment had been planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

People's care had been provided by care workers who understood their care needs and who had been provided with training and support. Comments received included, 'I would recommend this home to anyone in the world,' 'I would not want to be anywhere else,' 'Good care provided,' 'Everything is extremely well done,' and 'I am content with everything.'

People knew who to talk with if they had any concerns about the care provided.

The provider had systems in place to review the care provided.
