The service is a residential care home providing support for up to 15 older people some of whom may be living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 13 people.
The assessment looked at the key questions; safe and well-led. At our last assessment we rated this service as good overall. Following the assessment, we have rated the service good. The ratings for the quality statements we did not assess remain unchanged.
People were protected from all forms of abuse and staff had the skills to meet people’s needs. Managers had not always made prompt referrals for the authorisation of potentially restrictive care plans. However, following feedback this issue was promptly resolved.
People’s needs were identified and assessed before they moved in and risks associated with their specific needs identified and assessed.
The service was clean and staff understood how to manage infection control risks. All necessary checks had been completed to ensure the safety of the environment and equipment.
Staff were safely recruited and appropriately deployed to ensure people’s needs were promptly met.
Medicines were generally managed safely. However, some staff were not yet fully comfortable with a recently introduced digital recording system. We did not identify anyone had come to harm as a result of this.
Staff were kind, compassionate and enjoyed their role caring for people. They told us they were well supported by the registered manager who listened to them and acted upon suggestions they made.
Governance systems were effective and a deputy manager had been recently recruited to support the registered manager. The provider visited the service regularly to support the management team and monitor performance.
