All Inspections

6 November 2013

During a routine inspection

People and family members we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received. One person told us "staff are polite" and that "they come promptly whenever I've needed them". Another person told us the staff were "very friendly' and 'the food here is very good". One relative we spoke with told us "staff keep me up to date" with their family member's progress. They said the staff were very prompt in replying to their email queries and that they were 'very pleased' with the care provided to them.

At our inspection we found that people and their representatives received suitable information about the care and support and were involved in the care planning. Staff worked with other health and social care professionals to ensure people using the service received safe and effective care. People's care records and other documents were maintained and were stored securely. However, we also found that staff had not received regular supervision in accordance with the provider's policy and that there were some shortcomings in staff training regarding important areas of care like dementia and requirements of the Mental Capacity Act.

26 November and 3 December 2012

During a routine inspection

At our inspection we found that people were involved in their care and treated with respect. We spoke with nine people who used the service or their families who told us they were happy with the care provided, were treated with respect and were involved in the planning of their care. All said they were always asked for their views when care plans were being reviewed. Comments we received included: “Staff are excellent, polite and friendly” and “Staff talk to us about how to improve how things are done and make positive changes”.

The provider had suitable safeguarding arrangements, staff mostly received adequate support and the provider’s quality assurance system was being suitably implemented. However, we also found that people who used the service were not fully protected against the risk of receiving inappropriate care due to risk assessments not always including a clear description of the ways in which risks could be controlled in people’s apartments.
