Garden House is a care home providing accommodation and personal care to older people, including some people living with dementia. The service could accommodate up to 36 people, at the time of the assessment there were 32 people living at the service. The assessment was carried out due to the length of time since the last assessment.
Staff were providing good quality, person-centred care. People were supported by staff who knew them well and understood their needs, preferences and risks. The service was clean, homely and well maintained, with systems in place to help people remain safe and promote their independence. People had access to health and social care professionals when needed, and staff worked well with partners to support continuity of care. Medicines were managed safely and there were effective systems for monitoring accidents, incidents, infection prevention and control, care records and people’s changing needs.
The service had improved in the well-led key question since the last assessment. Leaders promoted an open and supportive culture and had oversight of the quality and safety of care. Staff felt supported and able to speak up. Governance arrangements, audits and the new electronic care planning system helped the provider monitor risk, identify learning and make improvements.
