Date of assessment: 28 March to 4 April 2025. Fieldhouse Care Home is a residential care home which provides accommodation and personal care for up to 42 older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The assessment included 2 on site visits, with additional information and evidence reviewed remotely.
The assessment was undertaken in part due to concerns about the service, which was being closely monitored by the local authority. It was also to check the provider had followed their action plan from the last inspection and to confirm they now met legal requirements relating to breaches of regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) and regulation 17 (good governance). At this assessment the service was no longer in breach of regulations.
People were protected and kept safe by a team of caring and skilled staff who knew them well. Staff understood and managed risks to people’s health and welfare. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience and staff were recruited safely. Managers made sure staff received training and regular supervision to maintain good care and support staff wellbeing. Medicines were managed safely.
Improvements were needed to some areas of the home environment, in particular the bathrooms/toilets. The provider had a refurbishment plan to make these improvements.
People were involved in decisions about their care and were treated with kindness and compassion.
There had been a change of management at the service since our last inspection. The registered manager had spent time implementing improvements at the service and was aware of where further changes were needed. The registered manager promoted a learning culture based on honesty and transparency and people and staff felt able to raise concerns. They had an ‘open door’ management approach. The registered manager investigated incidents thoroughly and used audits and other monitoring to help drive improvements. There were systems in place to gather and respond to feedback.
