Accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care

Terms of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity

The Registered Provider must only accommodate a maximum of 45 service users at Cole Valley.

The provider must have robust oversight and monitoring of all actions taken to safeguard service users and to minimise risks to them. They should ensure that systems are in place to identify, without delay, risks or concerns around the safety of service users living within Cole Valley and take mitigating action immediately. They must ensure they are continually monitoring these risks; including, but not limited to the risk of choking.

The provider must ensure that these risk assessments are continuously reviewed and any risk mitigation actions are monitored and amended as necessary to ensure service users are protected from the risk of harm.

The provider must immediately complete thorough assessments of the use of all specialist chairs; including adapted chairs used for seating, wheelchairs and other mobile chairs. The provider must ensure that relevant healthcare professionals are involved in the assessment and risk mitigation process which is specific to individual service user�s needs.

The provider must ensure that all relevant matters are reported to relevant authorities without delay. The provider must ensure they use the outcome of these investigations to amend care practices, systems and processes where appropriate in order to minimise any future risks to service users as far as reasonably practicable.

The provider must immediately implement robust systems around reporting and monitoring accidents, incidents, safeguarding concerns or other significant events that may impact on a service user�s life, health or well-being.

The provider must ensure that any employee subject to safeguarding allegations or investigations by the Local Authority or the police are not on duty until all investigations are concluded and until agreed by CQC.

The provider must ensure that no staff member with a police conviction or caution, detailed on their DBS, is on duty until a full risk assessment have been carried and until agreed by the CQC.

The provider must ensure that full recruitment checks have been carried out for all employees who work at Cole Valley. These checks must include references and DBS.

Condition of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity

The registered provider must not admit any service users without the prior written agreement of the Care Quality Commission. This includes service users who require to use the service for respite care. The term ‘admit’ includes re-admission of any service user. This condition should be understood to apply to any service user who has been resident at the home at any time.
