All Inspections

18 March 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection there were approximately one hundred people who use the service in Croydon, Lambeth and Wandsworth. To meet people's needs, the service employed sixty three care workers within these communities. We met with a regional manager and five other members of staff including the in-house trainer.

We spoke to five people who use the service and/or their representatives by telephone. The feedback we received about people's care and support was positive. One person told us 'I am more than happy with the service I receive and have a very good relationship with my carers'. Another person told us 'The carers are a credit to the firm, they are super'.

People who use the service told us that they knew who to speak with if they had a concern or complaint. They said they had been given information about complaints and who to contact, which is kept within their care plan record in their homes.

During our inspection we spoke to five members of staff. Staff told us that they felt well supported in their roles when out in the community and daily communication with the office was good and effective. Staff members informed us that the training programme was good and they regularly ensured that all training was up to date and appropriate to individual's needs.

During a routine inspection

We visited and spoke to a number of people who use the service and their care staff. One person who uses the service told us, "the staff are very good they treat me well, I have been very happy with the service". Another person told us 'I receive an excellent service from Westminster Homecare, the staff are really good'.

All of the people we visited spoke positively about the care and support they received, all showed us their care plan folders and told us that they were involved in drawing up their care plans. Most people told us that staff turned up on time and carried out the tasks recorded in their care plans. One person told us 'Generally staff turn up on time but if staff are running late they always call to let me know, overall I am happy with the service'.

People told us they had good relationships with their regular staff, when the regular staff were not available, for example on annual leave, Westminster Homecare provided other staff who were competent and able to carry out the tasks as stated in their care plans.

People told us that they knew who to speak to if they had any cause to complain. One person told us, 'I can call the office if I have a complaint and I know they would do something about it'.

Care staff told us they had regular supervision and had received training. They told us they were very well supported by the registered manager, care coordinators and senior carer and they felt very happy to work for the service.
