During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke with two people who used the service and two visitors. People told us staff discussed their care and support with them and said they were happy with the way care was given. One said that staff were 'very nice' they also said they were 'very helpful and kind'. All the people we spoke with said they felt well cared for. One relative told us that staff involved them in discussions about the care their mother was given and they had no concerns in relation to the care she was receiving at the home.

We observed that staff communicated well with people and promoted a supportive environment. We found that equipment was in good repair and that a system was in place for servicing and repairing equipment as needed. Procedures were in place to ensure that there were enough staff to care for people and people we spoke with said there were enough staff to look after them.

We saw that a complaints policy was in place and that complaints received were handled in line with the policy.

In this report the name of a registered manager, Francoise Patricia Savrimootoo, appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time but have since been removed.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People and their relatives told us that the service they received was very good. Staff treated people well, were very caring and had a good understanding of their needs. People were able to say what they wanted and staff responded to what they said. The people we spoke with were aware of the care plans that had been developed to meet their needs and said the staff delivered care and support in line with the plan. They told us the staff were very helpful and skilled at their job and always welcoming to visitors.

People said that they enjoyed the activities and entertainment that was provided. They told us the food was good, they ate well and that there was always a choice of meals. Staff provided support at mealtimes if this was required.

People we spoke with were satisfied with the accommodation and facilities provided within the home and told us that the home is kept clean.

People told us that they were kept informed about things happening within the service that may affect them. They told us the manager asked them for their views about the service. The majority of people we spoke with were aware of the complaints procedure and, although they had not used it, said that they were confident that any concerns they had would be addressed.
