There should be enough members of staff to keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs (outcome 13)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by sufficient numbers of appropriate staff.

How this check was done

Our judgement

The service ensures that careworkers are available in sufficient numbers to deliver safe and effective care. On the basis of the evidence provided and the views of people using the service we found the service to be compliant with this outcome

User experience

People told us that they thought the staff were competent. They trusted the provider to ensure that the staff had the right knowledge, experience, qualifications and skills to undertake the task allocated to them.

Other evidence

The provider told us that there are management structures in place with clear lines of accountabilities. Staff are supervised by team leaders. Through this, the provider is assured that staff have the right knowledge, experience and skills to undertake the task allocated to them. On a weekly basis, team leaders look to ensure that they have sufficient care cover available to support users of service. If at any time, there is a shortage of care cover, then the team leader would step in to cover the care required. There are regular team meetings where staff are given information to increase their skills in undertaking various tasks. Minutes of these team meetings were shared with us.
