Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 6 August 2025

This assessment took place between 2 September and 5 September 2025. This service is a care home providing personal care to older people, many of whom live with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 23 people using the service. The last rating for the service was good (published 25 May 2019). This assessment was carried out due to the length of time since our last rating. The rating remains good.

Safeguarding people was a priority for the service. Staff understood how to protect people from risk of abuse. Staff managed safety risks to people well, reducing the risk of injury or harm to them. There were enough, suitable staff to meet people’s needs. They were provided with regular and relevant training to help them do so. Staff were supported to continuously learning and improve in their role and worked well together to meet people’s needs. Recruitment practice was safe, and only suitable staff were employed to support people at the service. People were supported to have choice and control and maintain their independence wherever possible. They were treated equally and fairly because staff provided them with care and support that met their individual needs.

People's experience of the service

Updated 6 August 2025

People were safe and happy at Elmglade Residential Home. One person told us, “The carers are pleased to do things for you. I feel very at home because of that. They are kind and caring. All of them.” A relative said, “I absolutely can’t fault them…I am never worried about leaving [family member] in their care. They do a great job, and my relative is settled and happy.”

People were supported to stay safe when doing the things that mattered to them. They were looked after well by staff, who treated them with dignity and respect. People were included and listened to, and staff consistently interacted positively with them. People had choice and control about how their care and support was provided. Their needs were well understood by staff, who delivered people’s care and support in line with their choices and preferences. People were encouraged to do as much as they could for themselves, promoting their independence with the activities of daily living. Staff made sure people were included and supported to take part in a range of activities and events at the service. A staff member told us, “We offer activities and listen to what people might want to do. We support people to see their family as much as possible. There are no restrictions to families visiting and they are welcome anytime…for people with no family it’s important to make people feel they are cared for and someone cares about them.”
