During a routine inspection

People living at Loppington appear happy and well looked after. People enjoy a range of daily activities both in small groups and individually with designated staff.

People are offered choices in order to remain in control of their lives as far as they are able and the home has implemented a number of opportunities for people to share their views about the service they receive. This includes the regular involvement of an advocate.

The home works closely with health and social care professionals to keep people well. When people's behaviours change they review care and support plans and identify possible reasons why. Staff use the care plans to ensure they deliver consistent care and support. Staff feel confident that they can meet people's needs and consider that they do a good job. This comment was echoed by two people living at the home who spoke with us.

Everyone spoke positively about the manager who is very knowledgeable about people's needs and has a good understanding of what she needs to do to ensure that the home provides a good service.

Medication arrangements within the home are well monitored and staff are appropriately trained and supported to manage medication safely. Protocols and policies are in place to support practice ensuring medication is administered and stored safely within the home and while people are out in the community.

Loppington has implemented a number of quality assurance and monitoring measures which mean that the manager and senior managers have a good understanding of the needs of the people living at the home and the requirements of the home to meet those needs.
