During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service and two relatives were spoken with by telephone. All of the people we spoke with were very happy with the care they received. One person told us "They look after you very well here". Another person commented, "The support I get here is marvellous.". A relative told us 'My family member is really involved in his care and I am aware of any changes that may occur."

People who used the service were provided with care plans but the provider needed to ensure that these documents were better organised, accessible and updated when required. People said they felt safe living in the home and were able to discuss concerns or issues with the staff if they wished to. We saw that the people using the service were involved in planning their care and able to determine how their support was provided for them.

We found that the environment did not meet the standards that were required. There is no evidence of recent improvements in the home particularly in relation to furnishing, fittings and decoration.

Staff received training and supervision to enable them to carry out their roles effectively and care for the people they supported. From examining files we found that suitable staff were employed to work in the home.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service and one professional who was visiting during our visit. We found that people were very happy with the support they received and observed that staff were kind and caring in their interactions with people. One person told us, 'The staff are nice' whilst another commented, 'It's a nice place. It feels a lot like home'.

We reviewed the care files for all the people who used the service and found that they contained individualised care plans which included good information for staff about how people communicated their needs.

We found that staff had received training on safeguarding vulnerable adults and had access to appropriate policies and procedures.

We spoke with two members of staff who told us they felt well supported and confident in carrying out their responsibilities. We saw evidence that staff were appropriately qualified and provided with training relevant to their role.

We found there were effective systems in place to monitor the quality of the service provided.
