During an inspection in response to concerns

People who use the service told us they were happy with the care and support they were receiving. They said "staff are caring and help me when I need it". They also said the food was very good and they were given choices about what they wanted to eat. People said they liked living in the home and liked the fact that there were lots of activities. They told us some of the recent events that had taken place, to include gardening, a visit from West Bromwich Albion football team who carried out a ball activity, and a visit from the Lord Mayor. People who use the service told us "the staff are very kind and work hard to make it nice for us, they are wonderful".

We received information about this service from other sources such as the local authority, and Sandwell PCT. This told us that some people may not always receive the care that they needed. Crown Meadow had a number of monitoring visits and had admissions to the service stopped until February 2011 when improvements had been made. Some concern remained around providing a clinical lead to oversee plans for people who needed nursing care. We were informed that the service was appointing a lead person at this time.

In May 2011 a further visit told us that there was sustained improvement in areas of assessment and care planning. There had been a noted effort in relation to personalising care records, so that they reflect the needs as well as the wishes of people. It was also noted that the staff team worked well as a team, with a positive caring attitude. However some concerns remained in relation to the assessment and management of people at risk of skin damage. We were also informed that the use of bed sides to protect people from falling from their bed did not include in all cases, the consent from the person to use bed sides.
