During a routine inspection

There were six people living in the home. People living in the service had a limited ability to communicate with us or engage directly in the inspection process. The service made sure people were offered choices about their care and treatment in ways they could understand. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, people indicated that they were happy in their home and comfortable with the manager and staff who were supporting them.

People were asked for their consent before any care or treatment was given.

People received care and support that was well planned and sensitively delivered.

People received the medicines they needed, when they needed them.

Robust recruitment and selection procedures ensured that people were cared for by suitable staff.

Effective quality assurance procedures ensured that people were provided with a good service.

Overall we found that this service was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led and had achieved compliance.

During a routine inspection

Due to the nature of people's disabilities we were able to communicate in a limited way with the people living at the home present on the day of our inspection. We spoke with two people living at the home and observed the care of people less able to communicate with us. We spoke with the manager and deputy manager and two members of staff.

People told us that they were enjoying the activities they were taking part in. They were also looking forward to their summer holiday. One person who was returning from a morning at college told us through a staff member using Makaton that they had enjoyed their morning and had been painting. One person who had very limited verbal communication had moved to the home recently and was being helped and guided by a member of staff, we saw that the staff member offered choices and assisted the person discreetly with their needs.

People we observed were relaxed and at ease, smiling and being helped and assisted by staff in a caring and sensitive way.
