At our last inspection we rated this key question good. At this inspection the rating has remained good. This meant people’s needs were met through good organisation and delivery.

Person-centred Care

The provider made sure people were at the centre of their care and treatment choices and they decided, in partnership with people, how to respond to any relevant changes in people’s needs. People received person centred care and support. The provider was very committed to providing responsive, personalised care and support. Relatives told us the care was tailored to individuals. A relative said, “Because they are a small company, it’s really personal.”

Care provision, Integration and continuity

The provider understood the diverse health and care needs of people and their local communities, so care was joined-up, flexible and supported choice and continuity. Visits were organised geographically to reduce travel time and ensure continuity of staff, which people told us they valued.

Providing Information

The provider supplied appropriate, accurate and up-to-date information in formats that were tailored to individual needs. Information, such as a service user guide, was available in accessible formats. Relatives told us they felt informed about their family members care and support.

Listening to and involving people

Score: 3

The provider made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. Staff involved people in decisions about their care and told them what had changed as a result. Staff communicated effectively with people and their relatives, ensuring continuity of care and reducing anxiety for people using the service. The provider had not received any recent complaints. However, there was a system in place for responding to any concerns or complaints if any were received.

Relatives told us they were kept informed and updated when any changes occurred. One relative said, “They keep me informed. If there are any major issues [provider] messages me straight away.”

Equity in access

The provider made sure that people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it. Care was planned so the person could complete as much of their personal care independently as possible. Staff only stepped in where needed, ensuring the person still accessed support without undermining their independence. The provider was accessible and provided an ‘on call’ response system. People told us they were able to contact the provider when they needed to.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. Staff completed training in equality and diversity to understand and reduce inequalities or prejudices that affected outcomes for people. The provider ensured people’s care and support needs were considered and met.

Planning for the future

People were supported to plan for important life changes, so they could have enough time to make informed decisions about their future, including at the end of their life. People were able to share their end of life wishes if they wished to.
