Date of assessment: 20 May – 01 June 2026. Broomcroft House is a 'care home.' People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. Broomcroft House can support up to 87 people, at the time of our assessment 59 people were living at the service. Staff provided personal and nursing care to older people with a range of support needs, including people living with dementia. We carried out a comprehensive assessment of the service covering all quality statements, in all key questions. This assessment was carried out due to the length of time since the service’s last assessment.
Medicines were managed safely and in line with best practice, including the secure handling of controlled drugs. However, some improvements were needed to ensure records were consistently accurate and up to date, as delays in documenting medication changes sometimes led to stock issues; leaders had identified these concerns and had taken immediate steps to strengthen systems and oversight.
People were protected and kept safe from harm. People told us they felt looked after. The service had a positive learning culture, and people and staff told us they felt they could raise concerns, which the registered manager investigated effectively. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff worked in successful partnership with other health care professionals to ensure people received effective support. Risks to people were assessed, monitored and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure safe outcomes for the people. People were safeguarded from abuse, and accidents and incidents were monitored to see if lessons could be learnt to keep people safe. We found staff had the skills and knowledge to deliver good quality care.
Staff treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and delivered support in line with people’s preferences.
Leaders had clear roles, accountability, and effective governance systems in place to deliver high-quality, sustainable care. They maintained strong oversight of performance and risks, using audits and reviews to drive continuous improvement. The leadership team was skilled, approachable, and acted with integrity. We received positive feedback from people, relatives, and staff regarding the leadership, highlighting their openness and responsiveness to concerns.
