Our view of the service
Date of inspection: 4 March to 3 April 2025. We visited the service on 4 and 6 March 2025. Heathlands Residential Care Home is a care home providing support to adults of all ages living with dementia and physical disabilities. At the time of our inspection there were 55 people living at the service.
This assessment was carried out in response to concerns received about standards of care. We did not find any concerns regarding the standards of care. However, we did find some environmental concerns which we discussed with the provider who took immediate action to address.
We found there was a positive culture of learning when things went wrong. Systems were in place to ensure staff were recruited safely. Leaders ensured staff received regular training, supervision meetings and appraisals to ensure they had the skills and knowledge to support people safely. Staff worked with healthcare professionals to promote people’s health and well-being.
People's experience of this service
People and relatives gave positive feedback. One person told us, “I’m here because I have dementia, and I was unable to care for myself at home. You wouldn’t get a much better place than this.”
We spent time seeing how people were cared for. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We observed whilst some people received support to engage in activities taking place, other people were not supported to engage. We fed back our observations to the provider for them to address.
