During a routine inspection

MCCH Society Limited located at 20 Allington Way provides support to three people who lived at the time of our inspection visit. We saw that people were supported with day-to-day activities such as personal care, medication, community activities, eating and drinking.

During our inspection visit we spent time with two people in the dining room and the other person in the lounge. We saw that people were content in the home. We saw that staff interacted well with them and had established effective means of verbal and non-verbal communication with people who lived in the home.

Before people received any care or treatment, they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.

People's health, safety and welfare were protected when more than one provider was involved in their care and treatment.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The communal and domestic areas of the home looked clean and hygienic.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place and appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

People were made aware of the complaints system.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Staff we spoke with told us that they appreciated having extra training to help them provide better care to the people they supported. They understood the importance of keeping training up to date. We found that staff received training in areas specific to the needs of the people they supported. We further found that staff received regular supervision with their seniors and that further sessions were planned throughout the year.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Staff we spoke with told us that they felt supervision was valuable but they were not sure of when they were due to have their next session. Staff were not confident on how to support people with making decisions and were sometimes relying on basic knowledge gained in previous employment. We found that there was not a consistent system to ensure that staff were supervised periodically. We further found that training had not been identified which related to the needs of the people who were supported.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke to people at the service who were happy with the care and support they received. One person was happy to show us their room which was decorated in a personalised way with lots of family photographs clearly displayed.

During a routine inspection

There were three people living in the home at the time of our visit. We spent time with them and saw they were content and their needs were met. Their privacy and dignity was respected; they were supported to make choices and protected from harm. People who lived in the home were not able to engage directly with the review process during our visit.
