During a routine inspection

MCCH Society Limited located at 101 Sutton Avenue had five rooms for people with disability. The service had three vacant rooms and two people who lived in the home at the time of our inspection visit. We saw that people were supported with day-to-day activities such as personal care, medication, eating and drinking.

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service, because the people who used this service had limited verbal communication and complex needs which meant that the people were not able to tell us their experiences themselves. During our inspection visit we spent time with people in communal areas of the home. We saw that people were content in the home. We saw that staff and the manager of the service interacted well with them and had established effective means of verbal and non-verbal communication with people who lived in the home.

Before people received any care or treatment, they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, the provider acted in accordance with legal requirements.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place and appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.

People were made aware of the complaints system. This was provided in a format that met their needs.

We did not speak to people at the service as they were unable to communicate verbally with us. We observed that people seemed comfortable and content in their surroundings. We saw that they were supported to go out into the community throughout the day.

During a routine inspection

There were four people living in the home at the time of our visit. We spent time with one person and saw two other people during our visit. One person told us they liked living in the home, they said they liked the staff and were able to choose what they wanted to do. They told us that staff respected their privacy and they liked the food. We found people were generally content and their needs were met. People's privacy and dignity was respected; they were supported to make choices and generally protected from harm. Some people who lived in the home were not able to engage directly with the review process during our visit.
