During a routine inspection

The three people who used the service managed a learning disability and had communication difficulties. However they were able to indicate that they liked living at the service. One person told us 'Its good, staff are good'. We observed that people were fully involved around decisions with their care and support because the staff new how to explain things in a way people could understand and supported people at their own rate and pace.

We found that people were supported to make decisions on a daily basis and that the provider worked in line with the Mental Capacity Act (2005) when complex or important decisions needed to be made.

We observed that people were supported to express their views and that there wishes were respected. We looked at minutes from residents meetings and we found that people were supported to maintain and develop their independence in a way that was comfortable for them.

The provider had ensured that systems were in place and were effective in maintaining and monitoring the quality of service.

We saw that there had been one complaint in the last year and found that the person had been supported to make the complaint and that actions taken had been fully explained to ensure they were happy with the outcome.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us that they were happy living at the home but were aware that they would soon be moving into temporary accommodation whilst their new flats were built. One person told us "I have been here a long time and I like living here. Soon i will move, then i will have a new flat"

We saw that people were being supported in a person centred manner to learn skills in independence. for example we observed people preparing their own meals and saw evidence in peoples care and support plans that people were engaging in activities of their choice.

We found that people who use the service were regularly supported by advocacy services and professionals from the local learning disabilities team.
