During a routine inspection

When we visited the home most of the people who were there were unable to communicate verbally. We saw that staff had the skills to understand the people and staff were assisted in communication through the use of pictures.

We looked at how people were treated and found that they were treated with respect and that their dignity had been promoted. We saw that their care had been planned and delivered in a manner that kept the person safe while ensuring their independence was promoted. People had access to health and social care professionals. Staff were aware of how to keep people safe. The staff were trained and there were sufficient numbers on duty to meet the people's needs.

The people who used the service told us or indicated that they were happy with the service. One person said that all was well and that the staff were very helpful and looked after them really well. They told us that they had a good social life and that they liked to have the company of the other people who live in the home in the evenings.

We saw that staff interacted with people in a manner that was kind, gentle and caring. We saw that they delivered care in a manner that promoted the person's dignity and independence.

All records we reviewed were up to date and showed that the people's care was reviewed on a regular basis and that the plan of care was updated following any change in the person's care needs. We saw that people were consulted on their care and on how the home was run. This ensured that they were included in the decision making processes.
