During a routine inspection

We were told that there were three elements to the 'Carer Relief Sitting Service' - 'carer relief or sitting', 'respite or flexible breaks' and 'emergency' care. Mainly staff provided 'sitting' and 'respite' care. We spoke with four people that cared for their relatives and therefore used the service and with two staff that provided 'sitting' services to these people.

People that used the service told us they were very satisfied with it, that they would have liked more of it and did not want the service to be reduced in any way. They told us the staff were polite, courteous and understanding. They told us staff were knowledgeable and skilled and that they just could not do without them.

People told us the service enabled them to take a small break from caring and that they had confidence their relatives were being 'watched over' and were safe in the company of the staff.

We saw evidence in documentation and records held by the service that people were safeguarded from abuse, staff were safely recruited, staff were well trained and the service was quality monitored.
