All Inspections

16 May 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we spoke in private with three people who were using the service, one project worker and two support workers. We also spoke with the registered manager.

People who used the service were involved in discussion and decision-making around how their care and support was delivered. People were listened to and could influence the care planning process.

The service was provided from a well maintained and safe building. The building would not be suitable for people with severely restricted mobility. The landlord, who was responsible for the building's maintenance, undertook their responsibilities diligently.

The service provider had a thorough recruitment and vetting procedure which helped to ensure that people who were employed at the care home were of good character and suitable to work with vulnerable adults.

The service provider had a written complaints procedure. People using the service were confident that if they had a complaint it would be dealt with appropriately.

During a routine inspection

While visiting Edward House we spoke in private with three people who used the service. They all told us they were happy living at Edward House and that they got on well with the staff.

People told us that they were treated with respect and that their dignity was maintained. They also told us that there were no unreasonable restrictions on the way that they spent their time and that they felt safe living at the home.

People told us that they had an allocated key worker with whom they had frequent, at least weekly, meetings. They also told us they were regularly involved in discussion about the type of care and support that they needed. People who used the service also told us that there were regular meetings for all residents were any issues relating to the running of the home could be brought up.

When asked what the best thing about Edward House was, comments included "there is an open door and you can come in or out"; "plenty of privacy, people knock on doors and are always polite" and "[the staff] let you do your own thing".
