Biffins Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 14 people. There were 13 people using the service at the time of our assessment. We carried out a comprehensive assessment of Biffins Care Home between 29 January and 9 February 2026. We visited the service unannounced on 29 January 2026.
During our visit we found that the environment required improvement. Parts of the building, especially a ground floor bathroom, were poorly maintained and posed infection‑control risks that audits had not identified. We also found concerns relating to medicines management and a lack of auditing in relation to this.
People, relatives and professionals all spoke very positively about the managers and staff at Biffins Care Home. People received personalised care from a consistent team of staff who knew them well. Recruitment practices for permanent staff were safe. However, the registered manager had not always obtained the required assurances for agency staff providing one‑to‑one support.
Care records were person centred and outlined people’s needs, preferences and communication requirements. Staff worked well with external professionals and people were supported to access health services when this was needed. Relatives felt their family members’ health needs were well managed.
Leadership was inclusive and visible, and staff felt supported. However, governance systems were not robust enough to identify issues. We found that management responded quickly once issues were identified, however, stronger oversight was needed.
We found breach of regulation relating to good governance and we have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
