Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 21 January 2026

Biffins Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 14 people. There were 13 people using the service at the time of our assessment. We carried out a comprehensive assessment of Biffins Care Home between 29 January and 9 February 2026. We visited the service unannounced on 29 January 2026.

During our visit we found that the environment required improvement. Parts of the building, especially a ground floor bathroom, were poorly maintained and posed infection‑control risks that audits had not identified. We also found concerns relating to medicines management and a lack of auditing in relation to this.

People, relatives and professionals all spoke very positively about the managers and staff at Biffins Care Home. People received personalised care from a consistent team of staff who knew them well. Recruitment practices for permanent staff were safe. However, the registered manager had not always obtained the required assurances for agency staff providing one‑to‑one support.

Care records were person centred and outlined people’s needs, preferences and communication requirements. Staff worked well with external professionals and people were supported to access health services when this was needed. Relatives felt their family members’ health needs were well managed.

Leadership was inclusive and visible, and staff felt supported. However, governance systems were not robust enough to identify issues. We found that management responded quickly once issues were identified, however, stronger oversight was needed.

We found breach of regulation relating to good governance and we have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 21 January 2026

People and their relatives told us they generally felt safe and well supported within the home. Relatives said they believed their loved ones were cared for safely and spoke positively about both the quality of care and the staff who delivered it. One relative shared, “It feels a safe place and [family member] likes it in the home.”

People appeared comfortable with the staff and one person told us, “I get on well with the staff, especially the girls. I can do anything I want.” People’s loved ones spoke positively about the care staff and management at Biffins Care Home, comments included, “The staff are so good. The manager and deputy are too,” and “The manager is amazing and so is the deputy.”

People said they enjoyed the food. One person told us, “The food is good and they give us lots of fresh vegetables, all cooked properly not frozen.” Relatives were also pleased with the quality of the food and the attention given to people’s nutrition. Feedback included, “The food is cooked fresh and they make sure the residents get enough to drink. They provide snacks on the hot drinks trolley and the staff spend time with the residents. They socialise like a family.” Another family member added, “They look after people. My [family member] has a balanced diet with freshly cooked food and [their] medication given on time. [Family member] has 24 hour care and the family doesn’t have all the worry.”
