Date of Assessment: 1 to 14 October 2026. Josben Care Southampton is a care at home service providing personal care and support to older people, including people living with dementia.
The service had improved since our previous inspection and was providing good quality, safe and person-centred care. People’s needs, preferences and risks were assessed and regularly reviewed. Staff understood people’s individual needs and how to provide care safely while promoting independence, choice and control. Care records demonstrated people received care in line with their plans and staff responded appropriately when people’s needs changed.
People benefited from continuity of care and were generally supported by small teams of familiar staff who knew them well. Staff were safely recruited and received induction, training, supervision, spot checks and competency assessments to support them in their roles. Staff spoke positively about working for the service and described managers as approachable and supportive.
The provider worked effectively with health and social care professionals to support people’s health and wellbeing. Staff sought professional advice when required and worked with other services when people’s needs changed, including when people required additional healthcare support, specialist equipment or support following hospital admission or discharge. People approaching the end of their lives were supported in accordance with their needs and wishes, with involvement from families and relevant health professionals.
People and relatives were positive about the care provided and described staff as kind, respectful and caring. The provider sought feedback from people, relatives and staff and responded when improvements or changes were identified. People knew how to contact managers and felt able to raise concerns or make requests.
Leadership and governance arrangements had improved. Systems were in place to monitor incidents, complaints, medicines, staff competency and the quality of care being delivered. The provider had developed a service improvement plan and demonstrated learning from the previous inspection, although some quality assurance processes continued to be embedded.
Improvements had been made since the previous inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of the regulations relating to consent and good governance.
