During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit we spoke with the manager, staff, relatives and residents, who were at home. We also had responses from external agencies including social services .This helped us to gain a balanced overview of what people experienced living at The Moorings.

During the inspection we looked at care, medication, recruitment and staff training records. We also talked to residents and relatives about the home. One relative we spoke with said, 'I can rest easy knowing my relative receives a high level of quality care from competent staff and management.'

Staff members we spoke with had an awareness of residents care needs. We discussed with staff individual needs of residents. Comments included, 'We know the residents well and can easy pick up if someone is not themselves,'

We spoke individually with residents living at The Moorings. They told us they were happy living at the home and that they liked the staff team and felt cared for. One resident said, 'I have not been here long but have really settled in the staff do a wonderful job.'

Staff told us they felt supported, had regular meetings with their manager, and their training was kept up to date.

Prior to our visit we contacted Lancashire contracts monitoring team. They told us they currently had no concerns with the service being provided by the home.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with a range of people about the home. They included the owner, manager, staff, relatives and people who lived at the home. We also had responses from external agencies including social services. This helped us to gain a balanced overview of what people experienced living at The Moorings.

People told us they could express their views and were involved in decision making about their care. They told us they felt listened to when discussing their care needs.

Residents said routines were relaxed and the standard of food was very good. They also said activities were provided by staff and they could have a choice to join in if they wished to.

We spoke with residents and relatives about the layout of the home. One person living at the home said, 'It's kept very clean and always feels warm and comfortable.' A relative spoken with said, 'We looked at several homes, but this one felt homely and more like home.'

All responses were positive about the care and support the service provides. Comments included,

"The staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble.'

'A relative said, 'Never had to complain but I know the procedure.'

'It's a lovely building kept clean and is homely with the decoration and furniture.'

During a routine inspection

We spoke to the manager in charge, staff, relatives visiting, and received comments from other professional agencies such as social services and the environmental health agency. Responses we received were positive and reflected how well the home operates and supports people who live at their Moorings.

Comments from people living at the home about there experiences, and support they receive included, 'A Nice homely place to live". Also, "We moved in not so long ago and everyone as made us welcome". A relative spoken to said, "They have all been so kind and supportive". People spoken to about the time moving into the home all said it was a pleasant experience and the staff and management made them welcome. One relative told us They gave her all the information, and plenty of time spent at the home prior to moving in so they could make an informed choice.

Staff explained to us the importance of helping residents maintain as much independence as possible and ensure people are treated as an individual. One staff member said, "We ensure everyone is given respect and that is important"..

We talked to most of the staff individually on duty who confirmed they have a good knowledge of the individual care needs, social and cultural needs of people living at the home so that they are not disadvantaged in any way. We looked at care records of a person living at the home and one staff member spoken was able to discuss the needs of that person and was aware of the care required and daily routines of the person. Comments from the staff members included, "We soon get to know the residents well "..

Comments about the food were good and people liked the way the meals are served, One said, "Always a choice and there is always enough to eat, any time of the day or night".
