All Inspections

11 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We met all nine of the people who were staying at Chandos House on the day of the inspection. We spent time with four of the clients on an individual basis, who had been at Chandos House from between eleven days and sixteen weeks, and one person who was part of the aftercare programme. We asked them about their experiences of living at Chandos House and the treatment and support they had received.

We spoke to the registered manager, a student counsellor/project worker on a six-month work placement from a local University, the cleaner/housekeeper and two therapists about the support provided to clients at Chandos House.

All of the clients we spoke with talked about the positive benefits of their time at Chandos House. They spoke about the value of holistic approach in their treatment plan and that they had felt safe from the moment of their arrival. Staff and therapist described the building of a community and enabling clients to make new friends within a supportive network. One person said 'It was rewarding working alongside people in treatment.' One person said that 'there was an open culture that involved everybody.'

During a routine inspection

We met the ten people who were staying at Chandos House on the day of our inspection. We talked with each person to find out their views of the support and treatment they were receiving to assist them in their recovery from addiction.

We talked with the registered manager, the office manager, a psychologist and an education officer about how they supported people who used the service at Chandos House.

All of the people we talked with had positive opinions of the treatment they were receiving to enable them to recover from their addictions. One person explained to us, 'it is really beneficial, it has given me new hope, it has taken me to a better place'. We were also told, 'the best thing here is the safety and the support from staff and other housemates as soon as I arrived I was made to feel so welcome', 'the staff give you the trust , and the counselling we have is great', and "as soon as I started I knew it was safe I learnt it was fine to cry, and I knew I was starting to get better ".
