Our current view of the service
Updated
16 April 2026
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 17 June 2028
We found the practice had not met all regulations.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
We found shortfalls in appropriately assessing and mitigating risks in relation to the control of substances hazardous to health, infection prevention and control, data protection, closed circuit television, staffing and radiography equipment maintenance.
The management of fire safety required improvement to ensure national guidance was followed.
Although there are issues to be addressed, the impact of our concerns relates to the governance and the oversight of the risks, rather than a patient safety risk.
The practice is in Radstock and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms.
At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 7 staff, of which there were 3 dentists, 3 dental nurses and a dental hygiene therapist.
We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses and a dental hygiene therapist.
The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 - Good Governance. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 18 patients.
On the day of our inspection, we spoke with and saw patient feedback from a further 5 patients.
Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Comments included,
“The treatment and advise I was given was first class. Would recommend this practice.”
“They have always been understanding to my disabilities, kept close watch on what has been happening in my mouth. They have always made me aware what needs doing but have never forced me to go ahead with any procedures until I have been ready mentally to proceed. They have always explained things clearly. They are easy to talk to, especially if I have any questions or queries to ask. Any work I have had done was explained clearly, making sure I have understood and offering me a chance to ask any questions.”
“Receptionist was welcoming and friendly, hygienist on time professional, friendly, very gentle and knowledgeable. Gave me tips on ways to achieve a better clean. Dentist on time and friendly as usual. Thorough but quick checkup.
Practice offices are modern and spotlessly clean.”
“The team at Wells Hill Dental surgery are the best. As a nervous patient who put off seeing a dentist, everyone in the team has made me feel calm and confident enough to undergo several procedures. I would highly recommend them.”
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.
“I wanted to mention that I had an overall good experience visiting this surgery and the care I received . Realizing no corners were cut when receiving my treatments. Everyone seems to know what they are doing and the communications it's good when they tell me what's the next step. I been [sic] a patient at this surgery for the past 3 years!”
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
