During an assessment under our new approach

We undertook a follow-up on-site inspection on 24 June 2026. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.

We had previously undertaken an announced on-site inspection of Portland Street Dental Care on 29 January 2026. We had found the registered provider was not providing well-led care and was in breach of regulation17 (Good Governance) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had improved systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control, medical emergencies and fire safety.

The leadership and oversight for the day-to-day management of the service had improved.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation.

Staff had the experience to carry out their roles. However, improvements were needed to ensure that the practice obtained evidence that all members of staff had completed training appropriate to their role.

The practice is in Southampton and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

The practice was located within a 5-storey listed building. Although there was ground floor access to the practice, the treatment rooms were on the first and second floor accessed only via a spiral staircase, meaning disabled access was unavailable. There were car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 2 treatment rooms.During the inspection we spoke with the principal dentist and the practice manager.
