During a routine inspection

Most people using the service told us that they felt happy and settled there. People using the service choose their own daily routine, and are involved in activities that reflect their interests and abilities. Some people using the service had complex and difficult behaviours that impact upon the lives of others living in the home. People using the service were not supported to access to advocacy services at the time of our visit.

Each person did have an individual care plan and risk assessment and met regularly with a member of staff to review these. Everyone was supported to access appropriate healthcare services. Some people needed help with personal care and it was not clear that this was always provided.

We were concerned that a range of nutritious and varied meals were not provided for people using the service, and we saw poor food hygiene practises during our visit.

The home has a range of comfortable communal spaces, and each person has their own room that they can personalise. People are supported to take their medication safely and at the correct times.

The home has sound recruitment practises for staff; However we were concerned that insufficient staff were employed within the home, and that some staff had not completed basic training. The home has a well established complaints procedure, but not everyone who uses the service feels that their views are listened to or acted upon.

The home securely maintains standardised records, but it does not always tell the Care Quality Commission about incidents that affect people using the service.
