Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness,dignity,and respect. This is the first assessment for this newly registeredservice. Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider consistently treated people with kindness, empathy, and compassion, while respecting their privacy and dignity. Staff also treated colleagues and professionals from other organisations with the same level of kindness and respect.

People and their families without exception commented the staff approach was kind and their support was dignified. They said, ‘the staff go above and beyond; helping me with things not included in my care plan ,’‘they are very respectful kind, and they are a lovely team’ and ‘I am so happy with them. ’Relatives exclusively told us they were very happy with the way their loved ones were supported. They believed they were treated with kindness and their wishes were respected. Relatives commented they felt their relations had been supported in a dignified and respectful manner and “they have taken my stress and worry away.”

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and ensured their care, support and treatment reflected their needs, preferences and aspirations. Staff recognised and valued people's strengths, abilities, cultural backgrounds, life experiences and protected characteristics when planning and delivering support.

People and their families said support was very person-centred and aligned with their relations' wishes and preferences. This view was reflected by people who were supported. They believed the registered manager took the needs of their relations very seriously and promoted their safety. They told us, ‘Staff are so good at picking up on my state of mind or whether I am feeling low’, I am treated as an individual’ and ‘They have taken my stress away; they go over and above’. Care plans provided an inclusion of the interests and social history of individuals. Evidence provided an indication of how the service aims to assist people so they could get on with their daily lives and pursue interests. Staff said the manager had the appropriate values, experience and skills to enable staff to support people in line with their needs.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, ensuring they understood their rights and had choice and control over their care, treatment, and wellbeing. People were encouraged to maintain and develop their independence wherever possible. People told us their independence was fully promoted. Care plans had an emphasis on promoting people independence including people own personal choices. People told us they felt in control of their support. Care plan reviews were held in conjunction with people and there was evidence through these they were able to control and influence elements of their care.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views, and wishes. Staff responded promptly to people’s immediate needs and took appropriate action to minimise any discomfort, concern, or distress.

Relatives and families considered the staff team were very responsive to their relative's' needs. They were contacted by the staff if there had been a change in the needs of people. They felt involved in any discussions centred on the changing needs of people. People told us, ‘They are very responsive to my needs’.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff believed they had their wellbeing promoted by the provider. When needed, reasonable adjustments had been discussed with staff members in order to remove barriers to them working effectively. Risk assessments were in place to ensure the safety of staff working on their own. The service had a wellbeing champion for all staff to have as a point of contact to support relating to wellbeing. Staff received training in Equality, Diversity Inclusion as ongoing training and within the initial inductions. The service had recently received awards recognising their training and apprenticeship programmes.
