The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. For example, staff respected people’s privacy and dignity when delivering care and support, and their homes. Families spoke positively about how staff treated their relatives.

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. For example, people were treated as individuals, with care plans reflecting their personal needs, preferences and choices. Staff considered people’s strengths, abilities and aspirations when delivering support, promoting independence and wellbeing. Records showed cultural needs, backgrounds and protected characteristics were respected.

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. For example, staff promoted people’s independence by supporting them to make their own choices and maintain control over their care and wellbeing. Staff encouraged people to understand their rights and supported them to maintain independence where possible. Care was delivered in line with people’s abilities and preferences, as clearly outlined in their care plans.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. For example, families told us staff listened to and understood their relatives needs, views and wishes.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. For example, the provider supported staff wellbeing through regular supervision, training and open communication. Staff told us they felt valued and supported in their roles.
