All Inspections

23 January 2014

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection 20 people lived at the home and received care from the service. We the Care Quality Commission (CQC) spoke with eight people who lived at the home and five visitors including a healthcare professional.

We also spoke with the manager, five care workers, three ancillary workers and two people from the provider's management team.

People who lived at the home received care that had been well planned. They told us they were treated respectfully and given choices. One person described the home as 'a nice friendly place'.

We saw that people had a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink available in sufficient quantities.

We found that medication had been managed well and was stored securely at the home. Appropriate and accurate medication records were kept.

We saw that the provider had sufficient numbers of suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff employed at the home to meet people's needs. One person told us, 'I can ask them to do anything, they are lovely'.

4 March 2013

During a routine inspection

There were 22 people living in the home at the time of our inspection. During our visit to the home we spoke with 12 people and five staff. We also made our own observations throughout the visit.

People who lived in the home were positive about the service and said they were treated with dignity and respect. Each person commented that they were happy living in Torre House.

People said they could talk to staff to make changes to their care and that staff treated them as individuals.

People told us they had good relationships with the staff and were able to talk to staff if they had any worries or concerns. Staff were able to tell us they what action they would take if they saw anything which might affect the well-being of the person using the service.

The records held by the service were complete and kept up to date. This helped and supported staff to maintain the comfort and well-being of people using the service.

Systems were in place for monitoring the service and collecting people's views on the quality of the care they received. The manager or one of the directors were regularly in the home and people's views were surveyed through annual questionnaires. The summary of the survey was published so people could read the actions taken by the home to make changes or improvements to the service.

Having assessed the available evidence, we considered the service demonstrated how it met the safety and care needs of the people living in the home.

15 November 2011

During a routine inspection

Torre House opened as a new care service in May 2011. The home had previously been a care home, and following being purchased by GrayAreas Ltd the home was closed for a period of refurbishment and renovation.

For this inspection we carried out two site visits to the service. On the first visit to the home we spoke to eight of the people living at the home and spent time with or observing the care of several others who were not able to communicate freely with us about their experiences. The people that we spoke to told us:

"They look after me well. I am quite happy here"

"It's lovely here. The manager is really nice. We all love her"

"They do their best to look after us all. I can't find fault"

"When I moved in the staff helped me organise everything in my room so it looks more homely"

"The food is very good. Five stars, even though I don't have much appetite."

"I can do as I like, I just tell them where I am going"

One person we spoke to had higher care needs and told us that they followed the advice of the nurses as "they know what I need best".

Another person said "If I was worried about anything I would speak to my family. They would know what to do. But the staff here are lovely too".
