Burnt Tree Croft is a residential care home, providing accommodation and personal care to older adults with a range of support needs, including those living with dementia. The home can accommodate up to 40 people, at the time of our assessment 32 people were living at the service. At the last inspection the service was rated requires improvement, was in breach of regulations and we took enforcement action. We carried out this assessment in to see if improvements had been made. At this visit we found the service had made some improvements but further improvements were required.
Medicines were not always managed safely; people were put at a significant risk of harm. The provider was in breach of legal regulations, due to the concerns found regarding people’s medicines safety. Governance systems and processes were not robust, which effected the services ability to correctly assess, monitor, and improve the quality and safety of care in which people received. The provider was in breach of legal regulations, due to the lack of overarching governance systems.
Staff were observed to be caring and knew people’s needs well. People were supported by enough staff, with the right skills and knowledge to safely support people. Infection prevention and control measures had improved since the previous inspection and were being managed more effectively. Staff demonstrated a better understanding of safe practices, and systems were in place to monitor cleanliness and reduce the risk of infection. However, some minor issues were identified during the inspection. These were addressed promptly, with immediate action taken by the provider to mitigate any potential risks. Staff had a good understanding of safeguarding and how to report concerns. They were able to clearly describe what constituted abuse or neglect and demonstrated knowledge of the correct reporting procedures. People were safeguarded from the risk of harm, and staff actions contributed to a culture of safety within the service. Lessons were learnt following accidents and incidents, and we saw themes and trends were discussed to drive organisational improvements. The management team were open, honest and positive and took immediate action to address things which were identified as part of this inspection. Staff told us they were encouraged to give feedback and felt confident feedback given was taken as positive and acted upon. We received overall positive feedback from staff however some feedback indicted staff were unhappy. People were supported to give feedback in surveys and residents meetings.
