During a routine inspection

We spoke to people using the service who told us that treatments were explained 'in thorough detail', including likely outcomes and side-effects. One person said they were " well looked after right from the first consultation to the aftercare". They said that the costs of treatments were 'clear." They praised the staff at the clinic as being " very friendly and professional."

People confirmed that they had been treated as an individual and and they had been asked about their medical history prior to treatment taking place.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. These included checks on people's identity, their right to work in the UK, their professional registration and a Criminal Records or Disclosure and Barring Service check.

The clinic regularly risk assessed and audited their service. There were also systems in place to gather and monitor people's views on the quality of the service.

We spoke with people who use the service and looked at the clinic's feedback questionnaires that had been completed between July and August 2012. Overall, people were pleased with the care and treatment received. One person told us that they were satisfied with their experience and had 'no negatives at all' to report. The feedback forms showed that most people would recommend The Private Clinic ' London to a friend.

We saw that people were asked to sign a consent form before their procedure. People who use the service felt that the surgery or treatment had been explained well. Medical histories were taken for each person and there were procedures in place to deal with emergencies.

People were cared for in a clean environment by staff who had received the necessary training. The clinic had systems in place to ensure that people were protected from the risk of infection. We looked at the last infection control audit that had been carried out. People who use the service described the clinic as 'very clean'.

There were systems in place to ensure that staff were recruited appropriately and were suitable for their roles. There was evidence that there was an effective complaints process.
