During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who are supported by United Response -Kestrel Court. People told us about the kinds of activities that staff from United Response -Kestrel Court support them with. One person told us that they "like going to the cafe" and that he "likes them all" when he was telling us about the staff.

We saw that another person was being supported in completing household tasks. He told us that he was "happy with everything".

We saw that people were treated with respect and that they were encouraged to be independent when appropriate. One person offered to make coffee when we arrived at their home, and staff gave him space to complete this task independently with minimal verbal prompts to be careful with the hot water.

One person told us that he sometimes felt anxious because there weren't enough staff. We saw that his concern was acknowledged and an explanation given as to the agency's plan to recruit.

During a routine inspection

Due to the nature of this service and the people they support, the availability of people to express their views of the service was limited. This is because people are out and about with their carers, being supported to attend college, employment or other community based activities.

We did meet with one person who uses the service and they had the following comments to make :

'I am very happy with the help I get. The carers do everything I need and they are my friends'

'I receive the support that I need to live in my home and I have a say in how I am looked after'

'My carers look after me and help me arrange appointments'

'I am safe'

'I would tell someone if I was unhappy. They always listen to me'.

We have high confidence in this provider - United Response. They have demonstrated in other social care services that they provide that the people they support are the most important factor. We are assured they will maintain compliance with the 16 essential quality and safety standards and the associated regulations. They have declared non compliance with outcome 8 ' cleanliness and infection control, however have a good action plan in order to achieve compliance.
