Our view of the service

Woodland Hall is a ‘care home’ with nursing for up to 72 older people. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. At the time of our assessment 68 people were living at the service.

The assessment included an unannounced visit to the service which took place on 29 May 2025 and an announced visit which took place on 2 June 2025.

We conducted this assessment due to a change in the provider’s legal entity. The last rating for this service was good (published 28 November 2022). At this assessment we found the rating had remained good.

Medicines management systems were in place. The service needed to make some improvements to make sure that medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs, capacities, and preferences.

There were effective systems in place to safely recruit staff. Staff were well trained and supported in their roles. There were enough staff. Staff had the right skills and knew how to support people to meet their individual needs.

The building was secure, well maintained and clean.

People were cared for and supported by a consistent team of staff who understood and respected people’s preferences.

There was a culture of continuous improvement and governance systems were robust to help ensure people received safe and good quality care and support.

Staff worked with other professionals to meet people’s healthcare needs.

During the assessment, we spoke with 9 people and 5 relatives. People and their relatives were overall happy with the service. A person told us, “I do enjoy my relationship with carers. That is very positive. I think carers are kind, professional and do their job well.” Another person said, “They [staff] treat me with respect, more than just a patient or client.” People told us care staff were kind and caring and relatives we spoke with supported this. A relative told us, “Staff make [person] comfortable and keep [them] pain free. We are so grateful to everybody here, how well they look after our relative, it’s an amazingly kind team. They are so kind to us as well.” Staff supported people as they wished. People spoke positively about their environment and felt safe in the home and among staff. People were supported to take part in a range of activities.

During the site visit, we observed staff being polite, patient and respectful. They offered people choices and were attentive when people needed help and support.
