Our current view of the service

Date of Assessment: 06 and 07 August 2025. Nightingales Nursing Home is a service that can support up to 55 older people, people living with dementia and or a physical disability. At the time of the assessment 50 people were living at the service.
We undertook this assessment following information of concern received about unexplained bruising and the age of the previous rating.
We assessed all quality statements from the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The registered manager made improvements to some governance processes to ensure care plans were up to date and accurate information and the environment was clean and well maintained.
Staff were aware of their responsibility to raise concerns with the safeguarding authorities if they felt people were at risk of harm or abuse. Information on safeguarding was available to people and those who were important to them, so they could raise concerns externally if they wished to do so.
People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and to support smooth transitions when moving between services. They monitored people’s health and offered valued activities to support healthy living.
There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience for their roles. They made sure people were given choices about their care to enable them to give informed consent. Management involved appropriate specialists to help make important decisions that were in people’s best interests.

We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI) on both days when we visited Nightingales Nursing Home. SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.
Observations showed a tranquil atmosphere and staff had the opportunity to spend time with people. We observed people enjoyed chatting with staff and sought their company.
The atmosphere was very relaxed at lunchtime, people could choose where to eat their meals, and staff were always very encouraging and polite, and nobody was rushed.
People told us they were given plenty of opportunities to eat and drink and they enjoyed the food. One person said, “There is plenty of choice and we are always getting drinks.” A second person commented, “The food is up to the mark.”
People told us they were happy with the care they received and felt safe as there was always a member of staff to help when needed. One person told us, “I do feel safe, I can’t think I have ever felt unsafe.” A second person said, “I am happy; I am being well cared for.” A relative commented, “[Family member] is definitely safe.”
People we spoke with said they were happy living at Nightingales Nursing Home, and they had all their needs met. One person told us, “I have everything I need.” A relative commented, “[Relative’s] room is as clean as hell. We were told that her room is ours and we can do whatever we want in there.” Family and friends were welcomed within the home at any time, day and night but were asked to try to avoid mealtimes so that staff could focus on supporting people with their meals.
