During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us that they liked living there and said that they felt safe and contented. One person commented 'I am happy living here, I have lots to do'. Another person told us of their previous work placement and the support they received as they looked for a job. They said 'I enjoyed my last job, I am looking for a new job now'.

People said they chose what to do during the day and felt encouraged to increase their independence and development of life skills. We found that people had the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of activities both within the service and in the community. We saw that people also had direct involvement in making decisions about the service and the care and support received.

People said their bedrooms were comfortable and they could have them decorated how they wanted. We saw that most people had put posters up of favourite singers, football teams and their other interests.

We saw positive interactions between staff and the people who lived at the service, they were offered choices and we saw that their dignity and independence was respected. Staff spoke with people in a reasoned, yet warm manner and explained what they were doing when they supported them.

The person in day to day charge was not registered with the Commission to manage the service. The provider and person in charge have been written to outside of the inspection process about the legal consequences should they continue to fail to register.
