All Inspections

3 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We carried out this inspection as part of our scheduled inspections to check on the care and welfare of people using this service. The visit was announced, we spoke with the deputy manager the day before the inspection to ensure they would be available in the office.

During the inspection we spoke with the registered manager, the deputy manager, four care staff and four people who used the service.

Moxley Court staff provided care to people who lived within the sheltered care scheme Moxley Court and who wished to purchase this support. Staff were available 24 hours a day.

We saw that there were arrangements in place to gain people's consent to the care and support they required. People told us they received the care they wanted and needed; records we saw also confirmed this. One person told us: 'I would not be treated better even if I was the queen".

Appropriate arrangements were in place to ensure that people who needed and had requested support to administer their medicines, received their medicines safely and as prescribed.

We found there were recruitment checks in place to ensure people were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

The service had systems in place to review and monitor the care people received.

During a routine inspection

Moxley Court provided care to people who lived within the sheltered care scheme and who wished to purchase this support from the care team based there. Staff were available 24 hours a day.

During our visit we spoke with five people who lived at Moxley Court and four staff members. People we spoke with were happy with the care and support they received from the care staff. People told us that staff respected them and promoted their dignity. One person said, "They always listen to me, they are very good like that". Another person said, "They know I get a bit embarassed but they always make sure I am covered up and keep me private".

People told us that they felt safe with staff and were confident that if they had any concerns they would be acted upon. One person said, "My niece used to worry about me but since I came here it has put her mind at rest". We found that sttaff needed to understand their responsibilities under the Mental Capacity Act to more fully protect people from harm.

People told us that the care staff were always helpful and gave them the support they needed. We found that there were sufficient and appropriate skilled and trained staff available to provide support to people at Moxley Court.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this review to check on the care and welfare of people using this service.

We spoke to four people who live and receive personal care from Moxley Court staff. People told us that they were happy with the care they received. People told us that staff were respectful and provided assistance when they needed it. One person told us, "The staff here are very good, they always give me the assistance I need and ask if I need any other help". Another person said that although they did not currently require staff to provide personal care staff rang them every morning to check that they were ok, which they said was reassuring.

People told us that although they had an agreed number of visits, if they wanted to stay in bed, or stay up later than planned, care staff would come back later to assist them. People told us that they mostly have their main meal in the communal dining room but staff would also provide a meal or a sandwich in their flat if they wished.
