Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. We reviewed 1 quality statement. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People’s rights and independence were promoted, and this was reflected in feedback from people and relatives, our observations and people’s care records. Staff spoke kindly about people and shared examples where they promoted people’s independence and encouraged them to make choices. For example, staff respected what time people wanted to get up or retire to bed, and the time of day they preferred to have a shower or a bath. There was a culture which supported positive risk taking. One person commented, “I like my independence, and I do get that here.” We received some concerns from relatives that people’s clothing was not always well looked after, which did not promote their dignity.The registered manager confirmed they would take steps to address this.
People and relatives gave positive feedback about the caring nature of staff. Comments included, “It always seems like a happy place. When staff come into the room [name of relative’s] face always lights up” and “I like it here. The staff are very good and helpful.” We observed activity sessions where people’s involvement was promoted. There was relaxed and inclusive at
