During a routine inspection

Haven Care and Support provide personal care and support services to people in their own homes. Some people who used the service had complex needs and challenging behaviour.

People who used the service told us that staff were attentive and treated them with respect and dignity. Staff understood the importance of people retaining their independence.

People's care was planned and delivered in a way which met their individual needs. A relative told us, 'They come up with some brilliant ideas. My relative has never been so happy'.

The provider had systems in place which enabled staff to cooperate with other service providers and the wider health community.

Staff were aware of their responsibilities to protect people from abuse, and knew how to report concerns. People said they felt very safe with the staff.

The service had a dedicated training coordinator. Staff said they felt supported and enjoyed working for Haven Care and Support. A member of staff said, 'I think we are supported really well. You can go to anyone for advice. It's good'.

The provider had systems in place to monitor and assess the quality of service provided.

During a routine inspection

People were given choices in relation to their care and were asked to consent before anything was done. Where needed people were supported by family and staff to make decisions about their care.

Care plans reflected the needs of individual people. Risk assessments had been completed which reflected individual needs and encouraged independence in a safe environment. One person who used the service said, "They really look after me".

Staff knew the importance of infection control and prevention and had appropriate training.

Systems were in place to ensure that staff were of good character and had the appropriate qualifications, skills and experience to enable them to carry out their work.

The complaints system was brought to peoples notice in a format which met their needs. Complaints were received, handled and responded to appropriately. A person who used the service said, "I know I can tell them, but there's nothing to tell".

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy with the services provided to them. They told us that the care and support that they received from the service was good and that the staff were "Excellent". People said that they felt safe with the staff and that if they had any worries or concerns then they would feel comfortable raising these with the manager of the service. People felt happy that they were able to make decisions for themselves and were supported to, "Do what they wanted" and to "Change their minds about things if they wanted to". People felt that their individual needs were met well by the service and that they were aware of what was contained in their support plan. People said that they were involved in the reviews of their care and support. A person said, "I am starting to make decisions for myself now, which is good".
