Updated 12 August 2025

OSJCT Whitefriars is a care home which supports older people and people living with dementia. The service is registered to accommodate up to 57 people. At the time of our assessment there were 56 people living at the service.

The inspection was prompted in part by notification of an incident following which a person using the service suffered harm. This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken. As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident.

However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of recruitment and keeping people safe from harm. This inspection examined those risks.

The assessment took place between 13 August 2025 and 27 August 2025. We visited OSJCT Whitefriars on 13 August 2025. We looked at six quality statements across 3 key questions we use to inform our assessments: safe, caring and responsive.

We found the provider had completed appropriate checks on staff to ensure to the best of their ability they were safe to work with the people living at the home. The provider ensured there were enough staff available, and staff had received training in how to provide safe care. Staff had also received training in how to recognise abuse and staff were confident to raise any concerns. Risks to people while receiving care were identified and care was planned to keep people safe. Medicines were safely managed. People’s independence was supported and staff worked to minimise any barriers in the care people received.

People's experience of the service

Updated 12 August 2025

People were confident they were safe living at the home, this was because there was enough staff to support them when needed. People received support from kind staff who put them at the centre of their care. A relative said, “The carers are lovely people, I have not met one I didn’t like.” People were supported to make choices about their lives and to retain as much independence as possible. A relative told us, “The food is good, they get a choice, there are always two options. [Name] can always ask for extra pudding and it’s there for them.”
