All Inspections

5 February and 7 March 2014

During a routine inspection

Before our visit we told the manager we were visiting. We spoke with the manager, four members of staff, ten people who used the service, and four relatives.

The people who used the service, their relatives and the staff members we spoke with were all complimentary about the service provided. One person said, “There is nothing I can say that is bad about this service. It is absolutely wonderful.

We found and were told by people who used the service and their relatives that staff were polite and treated them in a dignified way and staff were very respectful.

We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

We saw that people’s care was planned and met in a personalised way. All staff spoken with told us they had the information they needed to care for people safely.

Staff were clear about the action to take should they become aware of an allegation of abuse. All ten people spoken with told us they felt secure and knew who to tell if they had concerns. One person said, "They deal with issue very quickly.''

Staff spoken with told us they felt supported by the manager, and had regular training opportunities. This meant staff had the skills to care for people safely.

There were systems in place to monitor how the service was run, and action was taken where feedback from the people using the service would improve the service provided to them.

5 February 2013

During a routine inspection

Allied Healthcare is a domiciliary care agency providing care to people in their own homes. As part of the inspection we visited the administrative head quarters of the organisation where we reviewed documentation and spoke with staff. Later we spoke with more staff, people who use the service and their relatives over the telephone.

People using the service were asked in a number of ways how they wanted their care to be delivered and their dignity and privacy was promoted and maintained. One relative said their partner had requested a particular gender of carer. When they passed this to the provider this was respected and agreed to.

Effective, safe and appropriate care was received by people using the service, to meet their needs. There are suitable arrangements in place to ensure that people are safeguarded against the risk of abuse.

Evidence we gathered indicated that staffing levels were adequate and that staff were supported through appropriate training. All staff we spoke to were very complimentary regarding the training they had planned and been provided with. One member of staff spoken to told us that ‘the training had given them the confidence to do their job.’ Systems and processes were in place to monitor the quality of service and to ensure people benefit from the service provided.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this review to check on the care and welfare of people using this service.

As part of our review we contacted a range of people which included staff members who work for the agency, relatives and people who are in receipt of personal care. We did this because we wanted to obtain their views about the service they receive.

People told us that staff arrived on time and if two members of staff were needed then they arrived together. One person told us that the timing of the staff was 'always spot on' and that the staff were the 'best set of carers ever had in 20 years'.

People told us that the continuity of staff was good and one person told us that it was 'so refreshing to see same carers every day'. People also told us that they would be notified if there were any changes in the staff that were due to visit.

People told us that the staff never checked the clocks or rushed when giving care. One person told us that they felt at ease when being cared for and was happy with the service.

We were also told by one person that they felt safe and that staff would always shout out when they entered or left their home.
