During a routine inspection

Overall, people spoke positively about the service. Comments included, 'I've had them for a good few years now and they're lovely', 'I've got a really good one, she's doing a really good job and I know how fortunate I am' and 'I have never had a problem, they're really good to me.'

We sent out a questionnaire in relation to Allied Healthcare - Chester-le-street. This showed people who used the service and their representatives thought they received the care and support they needed either all or most of the time.

We found people who used the service had safe and appropriate care, treatment and support. This was because their individual needs were established from when they were referred to or began to use the service. Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.

Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service. All of them said that the care staff treated them with dignity and respect. If they had any concerns they knew who to contact and everyone felt that they were listened to.

One person said 'I am very happy with my carer ' I have no complaints.'

One person told us 'the carers are very good ' wonderful and kind.'

Another told us that she always had her care fully reviewed once a year and that any concerns she had were responded to promptly by the provider.
